St Philips is 100 years old
On 9th November 2014 St Philips Theological College marked 100 years of its ministry.
Representatives from various Anglican dioceses in Tanzania, other denominations, Anglican training institutions, missionaries, alumni and friends from all around the world met to celebrate the occassion. On Wednesday the 8th of October 2014, members of the Diocesan Synod met at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Dodoma to elect the next diocesan bishop. Chairing this special synod was the Bishop of Tarime, The Rt Revd Dr Mwita Akiri. The event was preceded by a special service, dedicating the whole election process before God. On the 7th of June we said goodbye to 29 students, who graduated following their three years at the college. The students who graduated came from all the represented dioceses of the Anglican Church while others came from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania and the Moravian Church of Tanzania. On Sunday the third of February, our first term of second semmester was opened by a chapel service. The message was on 'Depending on God' in which we were remnded that in all we do God is above all, and in the midst of all our efforts we are reminded to depend on Him. The next day in the staff meeting the staff also were encouraged amidst the challenges we have this year in marking the centenary. With great sadness we received the news of the sudden death of our dear friend, colleague and partner in the Gospel. Andy was a true disciple of Jesus whose desire was to live for him and to truely witness in word and deed. Although he was far away we still hoped to see him one day in this world. But with his departure we still have hope of seeing him in the world to come before our Father's presence.

Following the Centenary Committee meeting held at Archbishops Lodge in Dodoma on Thursday the 12 of September the committee has planned for a second fundraising event to be held at St Philips Kongwa on the 24th of November 2013. From the 25th to the 26th of September bishops from the Anglican Church of Tanzania met in Dodoma for the House of Bishops meeting followed by the Standing Committee. Following these meetings, the bishops representing the Inter-Diocesan Council (IDC) Mainland met briefly and appointed the new chairman for St Philip's Steering Committee. It is all exciting and it certainly is a milestone. The college started 100 years ago in November 1914 founded by a Canadian missionary (T.B.R Westgate). He was sent by CMS to what was then Tanganyika Territory, to start training local church leaders. A college was founded, Huron College, later to be St Philip's Theological College as it is known today.
